VegRx- a New Program to Increase Community Food Access
A partnership with Jefferson Healthcare, 5210 and the Port Townsend Food Co-op
In partnership with Jefferson Healthcare, Jefferson County Public Health, the 5210 campaign and the Food Co-op, JCFM is offering families experiencing food insecurity a 12-month prescription for $10 of fresh fruit and vegetable (VegRx). Prescriptions are given while supplies last to families who indicate food insecurity during their annual Jefferson Healthcare Well Child Check. VegRx is redeemable at the Port Townsend and Chimacum Farmers Markets from April-mid-December and at the Food Co-op in Port Townsend during the months of January-March. This is a trail program in 2018. Visit the market info booth or ask your child's doctor at your next Well Child check for more information about VegRx.
Many seniors have expressed interest in VegRx. While we are trialing this program our scope is limited to families. The program may be expanded next year as resources allow.
- Receive VegRx prescription from participating Jefferson Healthcare providers.
- Visit the Market's Info booth at the Port Townsend or Chimacum Farmers Markets to redeem prescription.
- Your prescription is good for 12 months and can be refilled at the market booth. Spend VegRx on fresh vegetables, fruit, herbs, vegetable plant starts, and seeds at any farm booth.
- At the end of the market season in December return to the market booth for a three-month prescription, which can be redeemed January-March at the Port Townsend Food Co-op.
