Chimacum Farmers Market Season Opening
On Sunday, June 2 JCFM will open the 11th season of the Chimacum Farmers Market. Founded in 2008 by the Chimacum Grange, the Chimacum Farmers Market has grown to be a community staple now managed by JCFM at the Chimacum Corner Farmstand. This year we are pleased to bring you 20 farm, artisan food, and art vendors. For our Opening Day we welcome new vendors, including Goodness Tea, Shannon Food and Creative Designs. The week of June 9th we will be joined by Chef Wyatt Sushi. With several new food vendors, the Chimacum Farmers Market is a great place to stop for lunch and groceries.
We also are hosting our second season of the Power of Produce (POP) Club at the Chimacum and Port Townsend Wednesday Farmers Markets (Wed Market opening June 5). This week POP Club is offering a fresh produce tasting and Harmonica Pocket is playing live music plus hosting an open mic starting at noon. Kids of all ages get $2 weekly for fresh produce after they participate in POP activities. POP Club is sponsored by Port Townsend Chiropractic, Prosper Natural Health and Wellness, as well as Chimacum Corner Farmstand.
About the Music
Local jazz maestro, Chuck Easton, will lead a quartet at the Port Townsend Farmers Market on Saturday, June 1 and Harmonica Pocket will perform on Sunday at the Chimacum Farmers Market. Easton will be joined by some of Port Townsend’s finest: George Radebaugh on keys, Tend Enderle on bass, and Tom Svornich on drums. Easton will play guitar, flute and saxophone, and he will also sing a few songs. Easton has lived on the Olympic Peninsula since 1980. His music career began as a child in Mount Vernon, WA. In a May 29 Leader article Easton shares, “Both my parents were music teachers, so I was doomed from the beginning." After the Army and music school at Berkley, Easton moved to Quilcene and then Chimacum, where he lives today. He's been playing music around the peninsula for almost four decades.
The Harmonica Pocket begins with the swinging songs of songwriter, Keeth Monta Apgar. He delivers thick jazz chord progressions with storytelling lyrics wrapped up into thoughtful, mature and silly songs. The Harmonica Pocket is known for its outside-the-box, headphone-pop, and highly improvised live shows laced with unusual cover songs. The Harmonica Pocket also tours a children's show which has performed in sold out theaters, clubs, classrooms and libraries, and festivals nationally and internationally.
So much to taste, hear and experience at the Jefferson County Farmers Markets this weekend. See you at the Market! ~ Amanda Milholland
