“April showers bring May flowers.” Here in Jefferson County the saying could be changed to March showers bring April flowers and April showers bring even more flowers in May. I guess that version is a mouthful. The Port Townsend Farmers Market is in bloom! Our season opening was last Saturday, April 7th. While the forecast called for gale winds, the day was mostly clear and relatively calm highlighted by the cheery gathering of friends, goats, farmers, artists, chefs, farm-direct food and bright budding hyacinths, tulips, daffodils, as well as other spring blossoms. Spring colors burst forth in the tender salad greens, rabb, purple broccoli, and micro greens, as well as the faces of friends and family brought back together for our weekly farmers market.
Thank you for helping us kick off the season with your great company! The forecasted wind and rain did not keep people home from market. By noon our wonderful volunteer, Joy Balstad, Branch Manager, Kitsap Bank Port Townsend, counted some 2,300 market visitors! While we closed market early after the wind snapped a couple of canopy legs, the first day of the season was a success thanks to you, our community.
See you at the Market! ~ Amanda

Shout out to Chefs Featuring Local
A couple of our market sponsors are serving locally sourced food on their weekly menus. Chef Dan Ratigan at the Fireside Restaurant at the Port Ludlow Resort is cooking up Farm to Plate Suppers on Wednesday nights. These tasty meals feature locally grown food from Spring Rain, Red Dog, Mystery Bay, Finnriver Farm and Cidery, Dharmah Ridge Farm as well as other local farms. Learn more at their website. Farm Supper reservations can be made by calling (360)437-7412.
The Aldrich's Market is supporting locally grown in a new way. Their deli team will shop at the Port Townsend Farmers Market on Saturday mornings, then returning to the store to prepare “Market Meals.” The idea is to do this every market Saturday. Support these businesses in their use of local food and in turn support local farms.
