Halloween Farmers Market 2017.

Only 2 More Chimacum Markets

October 18, 2018 by JC FM

The first of the local Brussels sprouts as well as leeks, kale, carrots, celery, apples, pears, winter squash, pasture-raised meat and more are taking the stage at market while summer crops are wrapping up their seasons. With fall in full swing, our Chimacum Farmers Market closing day is just around the corner on October 28th.

The Chimacum Farmers Market has several vendors this season that you can only find at our county market. You don't want to miss these great vendors. Take advantage of our last two Chimacum Farmers Markets to enjoy our weekly Power of Produce (POP) Club for kids and to stock up on farm-fresh food, arts, kid's hand-made toys and body care products from our Chimacum Farmers Market vendors. Find fresh flowers, produce, pork sausage, hand-made honey soap, jewelry, useful art for the home and more from Sweet Seed Flower Farm, Dietrich Farms, Avantgardenz, Egg and I Pork, the Green Spot, Honeyhoney Soap and Scarlett Leather-- vendors who you can only find at our Chimacum Market.

Celebrate the Chimacum Farmers Market season with us on October 28th. JCFM is hosting a Halloween Farmers Market for our closing day with pumpkin painting, a costume contest with prizes, trick-or-treat with participating vendors and live music by Harmonica Pocket. Stay tuned for more information!

The Time is Now;
Use Your FMNP in October

Shoppers, if you use WIC/Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) vouchers, use them up this month. FMNP checks expire at the end of October. Most of the growers at our Port Townsend and Chimacum Farmers Markets accept FMNP. Load up on fresh, healthy fruits and veggies before the end of the month. Please visit the market information booth if you have questions about how to redeem your FMNP checks at market.

For the month of October, the Jefferson County Farmers Markets (JCFM) are participating in the Give Jefferson campaign. JCFM is pleased to extend federal food assistance benefits (SNAP/EBT and FMNP) for some 500 individuals and families in our community through our Fresh Bucks and Gimme5 food assistance matching programs. New this year, we are also reaching families experiencing food insecurity through our fruit and vegtable prescription program, VegRx. Learn more about our food assistance matching programs here. These program are made possible by community support.  Visit the Give Jefferson nonprofit catalog and make a donation to JCFM today. All JCFM donations through the Give Jefferson campaign will go 100% towards matching and VegRx funds distributed to individuals and families who experience food insecurity in our community. Thank you!

From Our Vendors

Red Dog Farm is bringing the first batch of Brussels sprouts to market this weekend. Brussels sprouts are one of the many fall treats we can look forward to here in the Northwest. A relative of broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage, Brussels sprouts can be eaten cooked or raw and make beautiful whole leaf salads. Come by the Red Dog Farm booth this weekend to snag yourself some of the first sprouts of the season!

This weekend, in honor of the continuing glorious weather, One Straw Ranch is offering a 10% off special on bone-in beef sirloin steaks. These generous steaks, averaging over 1.5 lbs, are perfect for sharing. Or, save the leftovers for a steak salad made with all the delicious salad fixings we’re still lucky enough to have at market!
