What do dragons and tomatoes have in common? While one breathes red and orange flames the other can be red and orange in color. Also, they are both taking the stage this weekend at your local farmers markets. We are hosting the Second Annual Tomato Taste Off this Saturday at the Port Townsend Farmers Market from 9:45 am to noon. Key City Public Theatre is also hosting the play "My Father's Dragon"on Saturday at the Port Townsend Market and Sunday at the Chimacum Farmers Market.
RIPE TOMATOES!! The Port Townsend Saturday Farmers Market is teaming up with Chef Arran Stark of Jefferson Healthcare and the Organic Seed Alliance to bring you the Tomato Taste Off. We will offer samples of more than a dozen locally grown tomatoes. Come and enjoy them for yourself and cast your vote for the sweetest, tomatoiest, best textured and best looking of the bunch. Tasting will take place from 9:45 am to noon or until we run out of tomatoes.
Even if you don't love this luscious fruit there is something special at market this weekend for you. Key City Theatre is hosting the play My Father's Dragon at the Port Townsend Saturday and Chimacum Farmers Markets. Three actor/puppeteers will bring Ruth Stiles Gannett's Newbery Medal nominated children's classic play to life in a rollicking participatory theater adventure for the whole family. This FREE play will take place starting at 10 am on the Community Center grass on Saturday and at the same time in the grass on Sunday at Chimacum Corner Farmstand.

We here at Red Dog Farm has some exciting new summer produce this week! First of all, sweet corn is always a crowd pleaser. Our crop this year is glorious and we are bringing a mountain of sweet, bi-color ears. Musk melons are also coming in. It is such a treat to have a local melon! Romanesco and purple cauliflower are making another appearance with their festive colors. We have basil in bulk quantities and priced for pesto-making! And of course strawberries; we grow a delicious late-bearing variety called Seascape and believe it or not, now is prime time for these sweet jewels! We’ll have flats of strawberries available for your freezing, canning and drying needs.
