This Sunday, June 4, marks the 9th season opening of the Chimacum Farmers Market. Join us for our Opening Day and the first Kids' Day of 2017 from 10am to 2pm at Chimacum Corner Farmstand. You will notice that the market has moved location at Chimacum Corner Farmstand to increase visibility. While our vendors will be primarily in our new location, live music and kids' activities will take place on the grass. This Sunday, musicians Howly Slim and Sandy Summers along with Toot Sweet will be performing from 10am to 2pm. The Jefferson County Library is hosting Storytime, the YMCA will join us with crafts, and Red Dog Farm is bringing a tractor or two to market. Sunday is also Tour de Forts with the ReCyclery, a great day to ride your bicycle to market.
Jefferson County Public Health will be at both the Port Townsend Saturday and Chimacum Sunday Farmers Markets this weekend distributing Women Infants and Children (WIC) Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) vouchers to qualifying families. Senior FMNP voucher distribution takes place in June through OlyCAP via mail and at their offices to qualifying senior citizens. Please contact OlyCAP for more information. Remember to visit the market booth for matching tokens after receiving your WIC or senior FMNP vouchers. Thanks to community sponsorship from Jefferson Healthcare, the Port Townsend Food Co-op, Kristin Manwaring Insurance, 1st Security Bank as well as individual donors, the Jefferson County Farmers Markets provide $20 in matching funds for fresh, local and healthy food from our farms to WIC and senior FMNP qualifying families and individuals. Learn more about our matching programs or make a donation in support of community food security and health.
The 4th Annual Artisan Food Festival on May 27th was a success, with about 3,000 people in attendance throughout the day and a lively evening at Propolis Brewing. Thank you for coming out to support local and artisan food.
See you at the market! ~ Amanda
P.S. Send Amanda an email if you have an office space available for the farmers market. We are considering a move. Thank you!
