Wow! Thank you community for coming out to the 25th opening day of the Port Townsend Farmers Market on April 1. About 2,700 people were in attendance for the opening ceremony, goat parade, chef demonstration, as well as farmers market.
We kicked off our Love Letters to Farmers drive for the season last Saturday. Bring a letter or poetry this weekend if you would like to share thanks with one of our local farmers, artisan food makers or artists. Deliver your letters all season long to the mailbox at the farmers market booth and we will deliver them to a market vendor and/or, if you choose, share some of your writing in our newsletter. Thank you for helping us celebrate our 25th anniversary.
See you Saturday at the Market!~ Amanda Milholland, Market Director
An Ode to the Farmers Market
By Nan Toby Tyrrell and dog Izzy
After 25 years this market thrives
each Saturday something new to discover
and explore with your eyes, ears and tongue too!
Those smiling women showcasing their delectable peppers
beets and carrots,
baskets of potatoes and onions,
and the aroma of fresh brewed coffee.
It takes so much will power not to taste each cookie
but, alas, one needs to find something special for a lunch treat
and for me it's those slices of focaccia from Pane d'Amore
and, on Wednesday afternoons, its a few dog biscuits from Gatheringplace
and a chance to roam through the Polk Street vendors with more space to admire and talk to everyone and reunite with old friends,
Yes, on April 1st the market returns
How lucky we are to be here now!
After a long, hard, wet winter this market graces our eyes again!

Nash's veggie of the week is RED MUSTARD GREENS! Red mustard greens are rich in vitamins A, C and K. They contain compounds which have cancer preventing benefits, including antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and natural detoxifying properties. Red mustard greens pair well with rich meats, such as Nash's pork. Grab a bunch of Red mustard greens and a few Nash's pork chops at market for a fabulous dinner! Get them while they last! $3.00 bunch each or 2 for $5. Nash's crew is still pulling sunchokes, parsnips and rutabagas out of the ground. These overwintered roots are still gorgeous! Speaking of overwintered vegetables, raab is coming on strong! Grab some cabbage, collard, arugula or kale raab for $3.50 a bunch or 2 for $6.
Mystery Bay will have fresh ricotta in plain and lemon this weekend and through the spring only. Don't miss it! We've got cajeta too and our always delicious chevre and yogurt.
The new earth-sheltered greenhouse at SpringRain Farm has been amazing and so we have an abundance of great tomato starts ready to go into your greenhouse or sheltered sun porch. They are 4 to 6 inches tall and ready to take off. We have heirlooms like Cherokee Purple and early tomatoes like Stupice. Right now, you can put in an order for starts to be picked up at the farm or at the farmers market. We are selling 6 starts for $20 or $4 each. Stop by the market booth for a list of varieties and to put in your order. It is too early to put them tomatoes into the ground outside. We are selling for your greenhouse or other sheltered space.
Sweet Lamb Baking Co. will have three new flavors of French Macarons this week, Chocolate Mint, Lemon Rhubarb, and Raspberry Vanilla. This week's Seasonal Savory Croissant has Nettles, Feta & Caramelized Onion.
